Friday, January 1st 2010 - Advice for Sage accounts users - If you managed the temporary VAT rate change in your Sage accounts by creating a new VAT rate T15, you will want to revert the default tax code in your customer, supplier and product records to T1 from T15. Fortunately, this can be quickly and easily accomplished by using the standard csv file export facilities in the Sage reports. In the sales module, go into reports, choose cutomer details, customer details csv and export all of your account records to a csv file. Then open the csv file in Microsoft Excel, do a global search and replace, replacing T15 with T1. Save the file, preserving the format. Then just use the Sage file import program to update the customer records from the csv file. Repeat for suppliers and products. Finally, check that the rate attached to T1 is still 17.5% from last year, which it should be if you used this method to cope with the temporary change. If you need assistance with this, please contact us.

Friday, 1st January 2010 - The UK standard rate for VAT reverted to 17.5% at midnight as the new decade started. All businesses that are registered for Value Added Tax need to ensure that any invoices or cash sales show VAT at the new rate. You may still receive invoices from your suppliers dated on or before the 31st December 2009, and you may record and account for these at 15%. If you have any queries about VAT, please call us or contact HMRC.

December 22nd, 2009 - Sage release their VAT change utility to assist their customers in reverting the standard rate of VAT from 15% to 17.5%. Get the appropriate utility for your version of Sage from here. You must ensure that all invoices raised on or after the 1st January 2010 show 17.5% as the standard rate of VAT.

December 16th, 2009 - Sage release ECSL/VIES update for Sage accounts. This is available as an automatic update for version 2010 (v16) users, and as a download from the Sage support site for other versions. If you have not already done so, create a Sage login using your product serial number and you will have access to the customer download area.
